Rice was born on the 18th day of May 1853 at Pownal, Cumberland County, Maine In 1860 He, age 7, was enumerated on the 1860 federal census of Pownal, Cumberland County, Maine, listed in the household of his parents, Henry S. and Mary Rice. The occupation for Henry S. Rice was that of carriage maker. 1870 In the 1870 federal census of Oxford, Oxford County, Maine, Henry W. Rice , age 17, was working in his father's carriage shop. 1880 By 1880, Henry W. Rice had married Cora C. Downs and they were residing at Hammond Street in Boston. Henry's occupation was listed as a carriage painter on the 1880 federal census and his mother-in-law, Mary E. Downs, age 52, was enumerated at his home. At this time, Henry S. Rice was also residing in Boston and was employed as a carriage painter. Condition: Good Condition
