Orlando Naranjo (20th Century) Latin American - Orlando Naranjo (20th Century) Pastel on Paper, Signed, Measures ( 27 x 21 inches ) w/frame ( 35.5 x 29 inches ) Artist Orlando Naranjo is a self-taught painter born in Calabazal de Sagua, Las Villas, Cuba. The artist is inspired by colorful palette's full of energy and giddy transparency of the Cuban geography, using reds, yellows, browns, and blues, dazzling in his paintings, to remind the world of the splendors which we live in and the vibrant substance that we are. The artist also uses, flowers, fruits, forests, animals, rivers and women, all inspired by poetry with a spell of the pristine, from an unpolluted environment , all expressed on his paintings with a sense of security, enjoyment and attractive reality, with in the perfection of his work.Naranjo won his first drawing contest in 1952 with a scholarship in Washington DC, USA. At a young age he moved to Havana where he participated in his first collective exhibition in 1967 and later his first solo exhibition in 1970, he also participated in numerous collective and solo exhibitions through out Cuba and the United States.
