Henrietta Mabel May (1877/84 - 1971) Canadian - Henrietta Mabel May (1877/84 - 1971) oil on canvas board, signed lower right, measures 9 x 12 and 14.5 x 17.5 inches w/ frame. Artist was a painter and educator. She was born in, and lived most of her life in, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She died in Burnaby, British Columbia, where she had lived since 1951. She has also lived and worked in Ottawa, Ontario (1938-1947). Her medium was primarily oil paint. Her subjects were landscapes, figures, village scenes, portraits, still life, harbour scenes and genre. The locations are Montreal, the Eastern Townships (Quebec), the St. Lawrence River and the Laurentians. There are also paintings from her travels in Europe. Her styles were Impressionism, Plein Air and (later) Fauvism. They were much influenced by the French Impressionists and in later years, by A.Y Jackson Condition: The absence of a condition report does not imply an object is free of defects.
