Jessie Constance Alicia Traill (1881 - 1967) Australia - Jessie Constance Alicia Traill (1881 - 1967) Watercolor on paper, Signed Lower Right, Measures (8 x 11 inches) w/frame (14 x 16.5 inches)Painter and etcher; born in Melbourne, from a wealthy and cultured background, trained at the National Gallery of Victoria School , 1901-05, also etching and painting with John Mather, c1903, studied in Paris at Académie Colarossi, 1907 and then in London with Frank Brangwyn, 1908-09. One of Australia's most interesting women etchers of the first half of the 20th century, travelled widely in Europe and Australia, including Central Australia, where she was a pioneer western artist exhibiting her work in Alice Springs in 1928; best known for her landscape etchings and watercolours and for her industrial subjects, most famously her etchings on the building of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
