Lewis Osborne (1887 - 1972) American - Lewis Osborne (1887 - 1972) Oil Monoprint 3/85 Titled '' In The Park I'' Measures (12 x 8.5 inches) Born in Woburn, Massachusetts, 1887, Lewis Osborne was painter of landscapes, cityscapes and desert views. He and his family moved to Los Angeles in 1901. As a young man, he worked for the Los Angeles Herald art department as an artist. During his tenure there, he received training at the Los Angeles School of Art and Design because of a deal the Herald made with the school. From the Herald, he went to work in the art department of the Los Angeles Engraving Company. Osborne was married in 1912 and raised a family, so a priority became providing for them. He started his own plastering and building supply business, a trade learned from his father. In the early years of this business he crafted original plaster relief wall and ceiling designs. In 1918, he met artist Paul Lauritz, with whom he studied for six months. Lauritz saw talent, saying that Osborne had the potential to become a ”great painter . . . if he would really work at it.” Condition: The absence of a condition report does not imply an object is free of defects.
