1891 Signed & Dated Log Cabin Quilt - Signed and Dated 1891 Log Cabin Quilt, American, dated 1891. Intricately pieced quilt composed of numerous Log Cabin/Courthouse Steps-type blocks, each centered by a small red square and surrounded by concentric strips of colorful printed and solid cottons. The blocks are arranged in an irregular, dynamic composition and enclosed by a distinctive border of alternating black, white, and patterned triangular pieces, with an additional red outer border. Inscribed “E.L.S. 1891” at upper right. Hand pieced and hand quilted. 75 x 76 1/8 inches. With staining, fading, wear, and other condition issues consistent with age and use.
