Golden Fire Opal and Diamond Dangling Earrings

Genuine Opal and Earth-Mined Diamond Earrings.  Fire and Ice!  There is 2.46 carats of round, brilliant-cut, G-H color, SI1-SI2 diamonds in the attachments and wishbone-like frames of these 14 karat yellow gold earrings.  These icy frames grip the flashy 6.54 carats of cushion-cut, checkerboard faceted fire opals that are set in bezels and baskets with decorative and supportive galleries.  The earrings hang approximately 1.5" and have huggie-style ear attachments with Omega backs and posts.  These amazing earrings bear the "Oscar Friedman" hallmark.  These earrings are certified and appraised for $9,480.00 estimated retail replacement value.

Auction Code: E042/7 - mnn7

Fire Opals are mined in many of the Mexican states, Australia, Brazil, Honduras, and Guatemala, Ethiopia, British Colombia, and in the United States, Oregon and Nevada produce some beautiful specimens.

  • Really was created by fire! Fire opal stones were found in Aztec burial sites
  • The fire opal was prized by Mayan and Aztec peoples, who called it “quetzalitzlipyollitli” or, “the stone of the bird of paradise.”
  • The name “fire opal” is based on the body color of the gemstone, not the "flash" from within as in other opals.
