Maud Lewis (Canadian, 1903-1970) Manner of: Oxen Hauling Logs, Winter acrylic on canvas board, signed lower right, framed. .
Maud Lewis was a folk artist from Nova Scotia. Lewis lived most of her life in poverty in a small house in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, achieving national recognition in 1964 and 1965. Several books, plays and films have since been produced about her.
11 x 14 inches framed; 9 x 12 inches canvas board.
Private collection.
Condition: Very good condition; light layer of surface grime throughout out with a somewhat sticky residue, this has resulted in small amounts of detritus sticking to the canvas; slight concave warp to the canvasboard; minor fraying and paint loss in the corners; verso has tape remnants from previous mounting.
