Erich Heckel, Attributed: Jesuiten III, 1915 After Lyonel Feininger
Erich Heckel (German, 1883 - 1970) Manner of/ Attributed: Jesuiten III, 1915 After Lyonel Feininger (1871 - 1956). Oil on canvas mounted to board, signed and dated lower left, framed. This item is being sold accompanied by sales receipts from 2012.

Erich Heckel was a German painter and printmaker, and a founding member of the group Die Brucke.
The artists' group Die Brucke was established in 1905, a moment that is recognized as the birth of Expressionism. The affiliated artists often turned to simplified or distorted forms and unusually strong, unnatural colors to jolt the viewer and provoke an emotional response. Its leading members were Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Pechstein, and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff.

33 x 25.5 inches framed; 28 x 20.5 inches board.

Acquired from Eastbourne Auctions, United Kingdom, 2012; Private collection, Massachusetts.

Condition: Good, well preserved condition; the board is warped causing all four corners to curve away from the frame about a quarter inch; top coat of varnish appears slightly yellowed; the bottom edge of the painting is glued to the frame.
