Upton Sinclair was an American author, muckraker journalist, and social reformer who famously exposed political and corporate corruption during the Progressive Era. Born in Baltimore in 1878, he authored nearly 100 books spanning multiple genres, earning widespread acclaim and a 1943 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. He is most renowned for his 1906 novel The Jungle, an exposé of the meatpacking industry that led directly to monumental federal food safety legislation.
