WWII 1943 German U-Boat Submarine U-345 Painting on Canvas Ernst Schmidt
WWII 1943 German U-Boat Submarine U-345 Painting on Canvas by Artist Ernst Schmidt. German submarine U-345 was a Type VIIC U-boat of Nazi Germany’s Kriegsmarine during WWII. She was commissioned in May 1943. She carried out no patrols. She did not sink or damage any ships. She was damaged beyond repair on 13 December 1943 and mined in December 1945. At the bottom it reads from German to English Ernst Schmidt At Sea May 1943. Signed by Ernst Schmidt OBLT zur See Mai 1943. Schmidt was Erster Wachoffizier (First Watch Officer) on U-345 and later U-821, both under command of Ulrich Knackfuss. Schmidt designed the conning tower emblem of "Crashfoot" (Knackfuss) used on both boats. Approximate size is 19 x 13.5 inches. Nice display piece!
