Bailey was a nationally recognized watercolor artist and teacher whose work was distinguished by its refined handling of light, atmosphere, and composition. Although he came from a family of artists, Bailey delayed his own artistic journey for nearly twenty years before fully embracing painting, ultimately emerging as both a gifted watercolorist and an influential teacher. Working primarily in watercolor, he was drawn to the medium's unique balance of precision and spontaneity. His paintings demonstrated a masterful use of transparent color, layered washes, and subtle tonal relationships, creating works that conveyed depth, luminosity, and a strong sense of place. In addition to his prolific painting career, Bailey developed a distinctive teaching approach known as Watercolor, Beyond the Obvious, through which he inspired countless students over more than two decades. A proud member of both the National Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society, he was widely respected for his passion, creativity, generosity, and dedication to the expressive possibilities of watercolor.
