Gypsy Ray was an American-born photographer and visual artist who later lived and worked in County Kilkenny, Ireland. She was known for documentary photography, portraiture, landscapes, and long-form projects including work on HIV/AIDS. Her photographs have been exhibited at Butler Gallery, which presented a 2015 survey of her work from 1983-2014, and are held in public and private collections including the U.S. Library of Congress, the Wellcome Trust Gallery at the British Museum, and the David Kronn Collection at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
