A Pair of Weighted Sterling Silver Salt and Pepper Shakers - A pair of weighted sterling silver salt and pepper shakers. Each vessel is designed in a classic urn form with a flared pedestal base and a domed, removable lid. The lids are pierced with small holes for dispensing and are surmounted by turned, pointed finials. The exterior surfaces exhibit a warm patina with visible areas of copper-toned tarnish and oxidation. The underside of each base features concentric circular ribbing. The base of one shaker bears impressed marks arranged in a circular format (photo 6). Legible characters include WEIGHTED AND REINFORCED and the numerals 40. Part of the word STERLING is visible, though the first two letters are obscured by a silver-toned foil label. This oval adhesive label is affixed to the underside and bears illegible handwritten characters in blue ink. Height: 4 1/2 inches.
