Bidspirit auction | Framed European Style Pastoral Needlepoint

Framed European Style Pastoral Needlepoint Tapestry - This framed needlepoint tapestry depicts a pastoral courting scene in the 17th or 18th-century European style. The central composition features a man and a woman in period costume standing in a landscape. The man wears a red coat, pink breeches, and green stockings, carrying a large bouquet of pink roses. The woman is dressed in a green gown with a cream-colored stomacher and apron, holding a red fan and wearing a wide-brimmed hat with a blue ribbon. A small white and brown dog stands in the lower left foreground. The background illustrates classical architectural elements, including a row of columns or ruins, set amidst dense green foliage and a blue sky with stylized clouds. The work is executed in a needlepoint technique using multi-colored threads on a woven support. The textile is housed behind glass under a double mat consisting of a cream-colored outer mat and a sage green inner mat. It is set within a dark-stained wooden frame featuring a deep profile and a heavily carved outer edge decorated with continuous scrollwork and foliate motifs. The verso is sealed with brown paper and includes a white rectangular adhesive label at the bottom center with black printed text reading: Frames 'N' Things / MUSEUM MOUNTING - CUSTOM FRAMING / OILS - PRINTS - RESTORATION - SUPPLIES / 548 ATLANTA RD.
