Bidspirit auction | Three Polychrome Composite Composer Busts
Three Polychrome Composite Composer Busts - A trio of decorative composer busts depicting Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frederic Chopin, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Each figure is rendered in a molded composite material with a glossy polychrome painted finish. Mozart is depicted in a tan jacket with black buttons and a white cravat, featuring a black bow at the back of the hair. Chopin is shown in a black jacket over a ruffled white cravat. Beethoven is depicted in a light green jacket with a black necktie. Each bust is mounted on a pedestal-style base finished in metallic gold-tone paint. The busts were manufactured using two-part molds, evidenced by visible seam lines on the reverse of the heads and torsos (photo 5). Each piece features the composer name in raised, hand-painted capital letters on the front of the plinth: MOZART, CHOPIN, and BEETHOVEN. The unglazed undersides reveal a white porous material. Each base bears a handwritten four-digit number in black ink: 1948 on the Mozart bust, 1951 on the Chopin bust, and 1949 on the Beethoven bust (photo 8). Small circular manufacturing casting holes are visible on the underside of each base. Height: 4 1/2 inches Width: 2 1/4 inches at the shoulders.
