Bidspirit auction | A Set of Four Andrea
A Set of Four Andrea by Sadek Country Courtship Porcelain Plates - This Japanese-made porcelain set consists of four circular plates, each featuring a distinct blue transfer-printed pastoral scene in the toile de Jouy style. The designs are inspired by 1820s English textiles and depict various romantic country vignettes: a couple at a thatched barn with a pig and poultry; a group in festive attire dancing outside a rural inn; a man and woman beneath a large tree accompanied by a jumping dog; and a pastoral confrontation scene involving a man with a pitchfork and a gentleman in a tricorn hat. The undersides of each plate bear a comprehensive printed gold-toned backstamp. The text begins with the pattern name COUNTRY COURTSHIP, followed by the description: Pastoral romance is the subject of these scenes taken from an 1820s English textile printed in the style of a toile de Jouy.
