A Pair of Framed Watercolors of Ming-Style Blue and White Porcelains - This pair of original watercolors on off-white paper depicts traditional Chinese Ming dynasty blue and white ceramic vessels. The first composition features a handled moon flask decorated with scrolling floral sprays and fruiting branches, likely representing the Three Abundances (peach, pomegranate, and citron). The second work portrays a wide-shouldered wine jar, or guan, decorated with a peacock among blossoming peonies and dense foliage. Both are rendered in varying washes of cobalt blue with fine line work to emulate the hand-painted underglaze decoration found on 15th-century porcelain. The works are professionally presented in matching square wood frames finished in a matte navy blue paint with a gilded beaded inner fillet under glass. The reverse of each frame features a brown paper dust cover and a white rectangular printed label with a decorative scrolled border (photos 11 and 12). The labels are printed with the following text: Styled for: IVY MANOR INTERIORS, Registered No. 5270-2812, Circa, MING PORCELAINS, W. King Ambler Old Prints and Maps. A handwritten date in black ink, 1994, is present on the lower right corner of each label. No artist signature is visible on the front or reverse of the works.
