Two Blue and White Ceramic Vessels comprising an Earthenware Cachepot and a Porcelain Vase - This lot features two distinct blue and white ceramic items: an oval earthenware cachepot and a bulbous porcelain vase. The footed earthenware cachepot has an oval form with two molded handles shaped like clusters of fruit and leaves. The exterior is decorated with blue transfer-printed scenes depicting a winged putto among tropical palm trees and foliage, set under a scrolled floral border. The interior base is decorated with a carp or koi fish among floral sprigs, and the rim features a repeating geometric and floral border. The underside of the base is marked with an underglaze blue square seal mark containing stylized characters that are not legible as a name. The second piece is a porcelain vase with a bulbous ovoid body, a flared rim, and a pedestal foot. The vase features hand-painted blue underglaze decoration of a long-tailed bird perched among scrolling vines and blossoms. A border of stylized leaf or heart-shaped motifs encircles the shoulder, and the pedestal base is finished with repeating geometric patterns. The underside of the vase is marked with a handwritten blue number 17. Cachepot: 11 1/8 inches wide across handles; 5 3/8 inches high Vase: 7 3/4 inches high.
