Late Victorian Carved Walnut Fall-Front Secretary Desk - A Late Victorian fall-front secretary desk constructed of dark-stained walnut. This two-piece unit consists of an upper hutch section set upon a desk base. The hutch features a central circular inset mirror flanked by two banks of two small drawers, each fitted with a turned wooden knob. The cresting is ornately decorated with turned finials, spindles, and scrolled fretwork galleries. The main desk section features a hinged fall-front panel heavily carved with a central circular boss surrounded by symmetrical foliate and scroll motifs. The fall-front opens to reveal a wooden writing surface and an interior fitted with four open pigeonholes and a single small central drawer. Below the fall-front is one wide drawer featuring two stylized leaf-form carved wooden pulls and a central brass keyhole escutcheon. The open base is supported by turned spindles and contains two small side shelves with curved brackets and a larger shaped bottom shelf.
