Hand-Colored Botanical Bindweed Engraving - This work is a hand-colored botanical engraving on paper, illustrating four varieties of bindweed. The plate is printed at the top center with the title BINDWEED above the numeral 8. The upper left corner is marked Page 13 and the upper right corner is marked Pl 10. Each specimen is identified with a cursive script label at the bottom: Silk cup'd Bindweed, Snip'd Bindweed, Gaudy Bindweed, and Round ear'd Bindweed. The engraving features fine intaglio line work and hand-applied watercolor washes in blue, green, and red tones. A visible plate mark surrounds the printed area. The work is professionally housed in a double mat, with a dark charcoal-colored outer mat and a gold-toned inner mat. The frame is a wide, ornate gilt-finished wood and gesso style featuring scrolling foliate and shell motifs. The reverse is sealed with brown craft paper and fitted with a hanging wire. A white adhesive-rimmed tag is included with the handwritten numerals 22 x 27. Frame: 22 x 27 inches.
