Japanese Satsuma Style Lidded Temple Jar with Peacock Decoration by Gyozan - A mid-to-late 20th-century Japanese crackle-glazed earthenware temple jar decorated in the Satsuma style. The ovoid vessel features a pale green glaze and is adorned with a white peacock perched among polychrome enamel peonies and chrysanthemums with textured gold-gilt outlining. The jar includes a domed lid with a pointed gold finial and decorative borders including a black and gold geometric fret pattern at the neck and scrolling foliate motifs at the foot and lid rim. A red rectangular stamp on the base contains a circle with a cross above two vertical columns of characters readable as 薩摩 (Satsuma) and 曉山 (Gyozan). An orange circular adhesive label on the base displays a black H logo and the printed text HEYGILL IMPORTS JAPAN. Height: 10 inches.
