Chelsea House Chinoiserie Porcelain Hexagonal Baluster Jar and Lid - A Chinese-made porcelain decorative jar of hexagonal baluster form with a matching lid. The body features hand-painted Chinoiserie-style decoration including colorful exotic birds such as parrots and pheasants perched on flowering and leafy branches. The lower section of the jar depicts a landscape scene with a bridge, a pagoda-style building, and distant blue mountains. The jar rests on a flared hexagonal base finished with a heavy gold gilded border. The matching hexagonal lid is topped with a gilded finial modeled as a stylized leaf cluster and features a gilded rim. The underside of the base bears a factory mark in black script reading Chelsea House. Above the maker name is a printed red warning in four lines reading NOT FOR FOOD USE. / MAY POISON FOOD / FOR DECORATIVE / PURPOSE ONLY.
