A Pair of Capodimonte Polychrome and Gilded Two-Handle Porcelain Vases - A pair of Italian glazed porcelain vases featuring a traditional urn form with flared, scalloped rims and pedestal bases. Each vase is accented with two large C-scroll handles finished in heavy gilding. The exterior displays extensive high-relief molded decoration hand-painted in a polychrome overglaze. The central frieze on each vase depicts a series of putti engaged in various activities within a landscape of trees and foliage. The shoulders are adorned with molded winged cherub heads, and the necks feature individual putti figures. The pedestal bases are decorated with molded floral sprays. The underside of at least one vase bears a mark applied in gold-toned pigment consisting of a five-point crown above a capital N, the word CAPODiMONTE, the fractional number 1366/117, and the word ITALY. There are also handwritten black ink characters reading 1956 over RW. As indicated by the provided tape measure and tag, each vase measures approximately 14 inches in height and 8 inches in width at the handles. Height: 14 inches Width: 8 inches.
