A Pair of Carved Vietnamese Hardwood Guardian Lion Figures - A pair of hand-carved hardwood guardian lion figures, traditionally referred to as Foo Dogs. This set consists of one male and one female figure. The male lion is depicted with its right front paw resting on a hollow, pierced embroidered ball, or xiu qiu. The female lion is depicted with its left front paw resting atop a small cub. Each figure features an open mouth with a protruding tongue and visible teeth, stylized swirling manes, and tufts of fur. The bodies are detailed with ridged spines, scale-like markings, and large fanned tails with scrolled ends. The wood has a dark, warm brown finish. The underside of one figure retains a white oval sticker that reads Made in Vietnam, along with a partially torn retail label that includes the text FOO DOG FE, Deep Closeout, and Disc. off Reg. The underside of the second figure shows areas of white adhesive residue from former labels.
