Large Pastoral Landscape with Figures, Folk Art Style Oil on Canvas - This large-scale oil on canvas depicts a pastoral landscape in a folk art or naive style. The composition features several figures in a rural setting, including a woman in a long skirt and red shawl carrying a basket, a young boy in a vest and breeches interacting with a small brown dog, and a man in a red hat and vest resting at the base of a large tree. The middle ground contains a winding dirt path leading toward a group of white-walled buildings with red-tiled roofs nestled against rolling hills. The artwork utilizes a warm, tonal color palette dominated by earth tones, ochres, and muted greens. The brushwork is broad and expressive, with visible impasto used to create texture in the tree foliage. The painting is executed on a stretched canvas, which is notable for being folded over the top edge of the wooden stretcher. It is housed in a dark-stained wood frame featuring a gilded, gadrooned inner border. A paper tag with handwritten dimensions 43 x 57 is attached. There are no visible signatures or dates on the front or verso. 43 x 57 inches.
