Bidspirit auction | Shell Art Coquillage Swan Figurine

Shell Art Coquillage Swan Figurine Signed Lille on Porcelain Stand - A large shell art or coquillage figurine of a swan signed Lille. The piece is meticulously constructed from hundreds of natural seashells, with small white bivalve shells arranged in overlapping layers to simulate plumage on the body and partially raised wings. The head is detailed with smaller pointed shells, dark beads for eyes, and a carved dark shell beak. The swan is mounted on a mound-style base encrusted with mixed shell chips and fragments of iridescent abalone. The entire sculpture sits on a separate white glazed porcelain pedestal with a scrolled rococo-style footed design. The maker signature Lille is hand-written on the rear of the shell-encrusted base. Total height: 10 inches.
