Fan Zeng Chinese Ink and Color Painting on Paper - A Chinese ink and color painting on paper by Fan Zeng (b. 1938). The composition depicts a bearded scholar in traditional flowing white robes cinched with a long blue sash, standing beside a young female attendant who carries a red-wrapped scroll. The figures are positioned beneath the overhanging branches of a gnarled tree, rendered using expressive calligraphic ink lines and soft color washes. The work is signed to the center-left in black ink with two characters reading Fan Zeng (范曾) and features a single square red artist's seal mark. The painting is presented behind glass with a cream-colored mat and housed in an ornate gilt wood frame. The reverse is finished with brown backing paper and a hanging wire. 21.5 x 23 inches (framed).
