A Set of Virginia Metalcrafters Polished Solid Brass Bookends Including Library of Congress and Celtic Knot Patterns - A set of solid polished brass bookends manufactured by Virginia Metalcrafters Inc. The collection includes two pairs based on the bronze doors of the John Adams Building at the Library of Congress, originally designed by Lee Lawrie. These bookends feature neoclassical female figures in low relief within studded rectangular frames. One pair depicts Humanitas and the other Intellectus. The reverse of these pieces is stamped HUMANITAS or INTELLECTUS, THE DOORS TO THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, VIRGINIA METALCRAFTERS INC, copyright 1984, and model numbers 8-24L or 8-24R. Also included is a pair featuring a high-relief interlaced Celtic knot motif with a mirrored finish on the raised surfaces against a textured ground. This pair is stamped on the bottom edge with the Virginia Metalcrafters intertwined VM logo, a copyright date of 1991, and a circular sunburst emblem. All pieces are of heavy, solid brass construction with a bright polished finish.
