A Collection of Javanese Hand-Carved and Painted Wood Folk Art Figures and Vintage Photo - This collection consists of hand-carved and polychrome painted wooden folk art figures originating from Java, Indonesia, specifically the Yogyakarta region. The set includes a male street vendor (pikulan) wearing a traditional Javanese lurik jacket and a blangkon headpiece. He carries a wooden shoulder yoke supporting two cylindrical containers painted red and blue with white star motifs, featuring suspended brass-colored weights. A second piece is a diorama of a seated female batik artisan positioned before a gawangan (wooden frame) with a draped textile fragment, accompanied by a small charcoal stove and wax pot. The third figure is a standing female in a hand-painted batik sarong cradling an infant. Included with the figures is a vintage black and white photographic postcard depicting women in a batik workshop. The postcard is inscribed at the bottom left with the text 225. Batik Djokja. The use of the spelling Djokja indicates a pre-1972 Indonesian orthography for the city of Yogyakarta. The grouping spans approximately 16 inches in width. The tallest figures measure approximately 8 inches in height.
