Bidspirit auction | Early Alabama Lug Handled Crock
Early Alabama Lug Handled Crock W/ Rutile - Early Alabama Lug Handled Crock W/ Rutile, fantastic example of Southern Pottery with exceptional form and stunning eye appeal. The rutile in this jar really just sets this one apart from other pieces of Alabama Pottery. This is one of very few examples to bare the rutile cololring set against a modified lime alkaline glaze background. Also, one would note the detailed tooling around the rim. This jar is believed to be from around the 1840-50s time period and would rank as a Cagle top shelf example. This Pot with definitly be extremely hard to upgrade from considering this jar has heavy rutile coloration. Fresh to the market example from the Johnson collection. Condition: Has insignificant lip flaking especially for its age and has a tight glaze line, rings true, and holds water. No repairs. Standing: 8 7/8” T.
