Scarce Signed "TL" Thad or Thadaus Leopard Rusk County, Texas Pitcher. This is one of the finest signed examples known, this one has stellar form and glaze with a strong stamp in the neck of the pitcher. As it was thought this was his work from his Winston County, Mississippi shop but with the clay body showing this to be from Texas. The clay in Winston County, Mississippi is a yellowish color with a bulky thick clay body & this pitcher has a fine pure bluish grey colored clay as found in the Wilcox Clay Outcrop in East Texas. This is the major difference in the two clay bodies from Mississippi and Texas. Also a notable fact, When his father Emmanuel & his brother John Leopard left for Texas, arrives in the mid 1850s. Also noted he was married three times, and as his father got older it would make sense that one would travel to family, help out and also introduce his wives to the family. It is know that he was not listed as a potter in East Texas but one would surely think he would go visit family and as many potters would do, travel with there pottery "TL" stamp. Also
