1919 Martin employee made Mandolin
What a incredible instrument. This came from a lady whos Great Aunt worked for Martin. Employees where allowed to make one instrument use any materials Martin had to offer but could not put the Martin name on it and had to be made on off time. This Mandolin has the makers initials C.L.R and dated 12-26-19. It has real ivory, abalone, tortise shell, pearl, hand etchings . According to research employee made mandolins are rare, most employees made guitars and what makes this even rarer is its a "Tator Bug" mandolin and not a flat back. here is a nice page to read up on Martin employee made instruments http://bellsouthpwp.net/r/d/rdevelli/martin_employee_instruments_t.htm This mandolin also has the oringial leather hard case as well.
