Fine Rye Shop 3gal Jug Alabama - Fine Rye Shop three gallon Jug Alabama from the Hamilton area of Alabama. This is one of the longest running pottery shop from Alabama and the Rye family is known for some beautiful alkaline glazed pottery. This is a three gallon Circa 1890-1900 jug with a glaze of a lime, slip and salt glaze. From oral records from the family, they used all three glazes and would fire a salt glaze then go back to a lime glaze firing, This is a example where you have three glazes and makes a striking glaze, in which you have a slip base with great concentration of heavy lime glaze with some traces of salt that makes this jug very eye appealing. This is one of my favorite glazes by the Rye Family. This is from a lifetime collection out of Hamilton Alabama in which the collectors have spent many years researching the Rye pottery site and family history. This jug was potted at Jug Shop Rd outside Hamilton Ala. This jug is believed to be potted by the hands of Jimmy Rye. Shards can be found at the Rye sight with same glaze and handle terminals. Condition is fantastic two small glaze flakes Condition: Two very minor glaze flakes. No cracks, or repairs.
