Rare 1840s Barrow County Charles H. Ferguson (1793-1878) two gallon decorated jug with two concentric lines which were used for gallon capacity or styled decoration. This is a fine rich lime glazed example and has the Ferguson handle and shows strong Edgefield traits as he was trained in Edgefield South Carolina in the early 1820s. One also note the strong traces of quartz in this vessel. This is a very scarce piece and not many of Barrow County pieces show up and what little does are some of the most sought after example of antebellum Georgia stoneware. This is a museum quality example and note one area of the impressions on the body of the jug where you see (I) type impressions, I have seen one jug with a ring mark and also a mark with these (I) made into a circle and is on a damaged vessel. This is the exact marks that make up a spaced circle and is one more mark noted in Barrow County . The Jug is Circa 1840s and is in outstanding condition.
