Bidspirit auction | WWII USMC Londonderry Ireland Detachment

WWII USMC Londonderry Ireland Detachment Patch - A World War II era United States Marine Corps (USMC) shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) for the Londonderry, Ireland Detachment. The patch is constructed as a shield-shaped emblem featuring a red field with a yellow border. The embroidery is executed in yellow, black, and green thread. The dexter (left) side displays a stylized Marine Corps Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) in yellow and black. The sinister (right) side features a green four-leaf clover, a motif referencing both the detachment's location in Ireland and the phonetic association with the number four. The patch is fully embroidered on a red base. The reverse shows a characteristic white thread backing, often referred to as a ”snow” backing, which was common in US military patch manufacturing during the 1940s.
