Bidspirit auction | Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun 12

Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun 12 Gauge with 31 Inch Barrel - A Continental European double-barrel muzzleloading percussion shotgun chambered in 12 gauge, featuring 31-inch Damascus steel side-by-side barrels. The firearm is constructed with back-action locks and dolphin-head hammers, both of which are decorated with fine scroll engraving. The walnut stock is a significant highlight of the piece, featuring a checkered wrist and a prominent high-relief carving of a stag’s head on the underside of the buttstock, complete with inset red glass eyes. The stock further incorporates a raised cheekpiece with an incised leaf carving. The brass furniture is elaborately engraved throughout with floral and leaf motifs, including the long-tang trigger guard, the buttplate, and the ramrod entry pipe. A wooden ramrod with a brass tip is secured beneath the barrels by two iron pipes. The firearm includes sling swivels mounted to the stock and barrels. While no manufacturer markings are visible, the construction and decorative style are consistent with mid-19th-century sporting arms. This item is a pre-1899 antique firearm (manufactured in or before 1898) or a qualifying black-powder firearm, and does not require an FFL or background check under federal law.
