Smith's Racing Photos Archive of 1947 Ohio AAA Midget and Sprint Car Racing Type I Originals - This collection consists of all Type I originals by Smith's Racing Photos, documenting the American Automobile Association sanctioned midget and sprint car racing circuit in Ohio during May and June of 1947. The archive includes original photographic negatives and a selection of vintage black and white silver gelatin prints. The images capture action on dirt tracks, car lineups, and individual driver portraits at venues including Ashland, Van Wert, Celina, and Powell Speedway. Featured drivers include 1949 Indianapolis 500 winner Bill Holland, Hall of Fame driver Jimmie Wilburn, Henry Wilson, Wayne Wynn, Frank Luptow, and others. Visual details include period racing attire such as leather helmets and goggles, and cars with visible sponsorships like Wards Riverside Tires. Trackside advertisements for C.R. Case Tractors and Ford Tractors are also visible. The lot is organized into newer manila envelopes used to contain and organize the contents, which typically feature handwritten or typed information regarding location and date. The original sleeves contain extensive notes about the contained photo and/or negative, including technical notations indicating the use of an Argoflex camera and Plus X film.
