A Collection of Type I Original Racing Photographs and Negatives by Smith's Racing Photos Jones Speedway Newark Ohio 1947 - This archive consists of a collection of Type I original medium-format black-and-white negatives and matching period silver gelatin prints produced by Smith's Racing Photos. The imagery documents midget and sprint car dirt track racing at Jones Speedway in Newark, Ohio, during the summer of 1947. specific dates are recorded across the collection: June 8, 1947; August 17, 1947; and September 7, 1947. The subject matter includes action sequences on the track, vehicles maneuvering through turns kicking up dust, starting line-ups, and individual car portraits, such as a midget racer bearing the number 5. The collection is housed in newer manila envelopes used for organization, which are labeled with locations and dates; labels feature the misspelling Newarrk, OH. The original paper sleeves are included and contain extensive notes regarding the contained photo and negative. These handwritten notations identify drivers and personnel such as Buck Barr, Bales, D. Lynch, and Joe. sleeves feature the name Burch in the recorder section. Some prints include handwritten notations on the reverse confirming the location and date.
