Bidspirit auction | Larry Sherlock (Ed.), Columbus Sports

Larry Sherlock (Ed.), Columbus Sports Week Magazine: Racing, Volume II, 40 Issues, 1952 - This lot features a significant archival collection of original issues of Columbus Sports Week Magazine, subtitled ”Racing,” dating from 1952. Edited and published by Larry Sherlock in Columbus, Ohio, these publications served as the official race programs for NASCAR-sanctioned stock car and midget racing events at the Columbus Motor Speedway and Beulah Park. The collection represents a near-complete run of Volume II. A primary highlight of this assembly is the presence of numerous contemporary driver autographs on the front covers. Signed issues include Vol. II, No. 1 featuring Robert ”Red” Douglass, as well as covers depicting Bill Pedigo, Neal Sceva, Chet Moody, Hal Kemp, and Dale England. Other prominent regional drivers featured on covers include Buddy Martin, Paul Parks, Ralph O’Day, and Elzie ”Flash” Whetnall. Internal content provides a rich historical record of the 1950s Ohio racing scene, including ”The Editor Says” columns by Sherlock, time trial results, track official rosters, and vintage local advertisements for automotive services and Columbus landmarks like ”The Top” restaurant.
