World War II US Army Recruitment Poster Featuring Private Joe Louis - This lot consists of a framed World War II era US Army recruitment and morale-boosting poster featuring heavyweight boxing champion Private Joe Louis. The monochrome poster depicts Louis in military uniform wearing an M1917A1 helmet and holding a rifle with a fixed bayonet. The printed text includes a header stating Pvt. Joe Louis says - followed by the body quote We're going to do our part . . . and we'll win because we're on God's side. This specific quote and imagery were derived from a speech Louis delivered at a Navy Relief Society dinner in 1942 and were subsequently utilized by the Office of War Information to support the war effort. The poster is printed on paper and is housed in a gold-toned fluted wooden frame behind glass. The reverse features a wire hanger and cardboard backing secured with staples.
