A Pair of Vintage Smoking Sambo Die-Cut Cardboard Novelty Standees - A pair of vintage Smoking Sambo die-cut cardboard novelty displays, dating to the mid-20th century. These items are representative of American Black Americana ephemera and were frequently utilized as fireworks advertisements or novelty smoking toys. Each figure is lithographed with a caricature of a man wearing a red plaid jacket, a white vest featuring a horseshoe tie pin, blue and white striped trousers, and a straw hat. A star-shaped die-cut puncture is located at the mouth, intended to hold a small cigarette or incense cone to simulate smoking. The text Smoking Sambo is printed in red cursive script on the lower right of each figure. The reverse of each piece features an integrated cardboard easel back for upright display. 7.5 inches (H) x 4.5 inches (W).
