Collection of 10 Antique Stereoview Cards Including Keystone View Co. and Underwood and Underwood - A collection of 10 antique stereoview cards produced circa 1900 to 1910. The group consists of seven cards by the Keystone View Company, one by Underwood and Underwood, one by The Universal Photo Art Co. (C.H. Graves), and one unidentified hand-tinted card. The cards are constructed of silver halide photographic prints mounted on standard curved gray and buff cardstock. Subject matter includes historical, industrial, and ethnographic scenes. The Keystone View Company cards include three scenes based on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem The Song of Hiawatha (No. 158 An Indian Mother and Her Child, No. 168 An Indian Maiden and Two Braves, and No. 169 Hiawatha Took Minnehaha). Other Keystone subjects include No. 182 Mounted Sioux Indians in Full Feather Leaving Camp, No. 163 Steam Shovel at Work at the Burt Mine in the Mesabi Range, Minnesota, No. 129 A Trainload of Coal in Conneaut, Ohio, and No. 113 Birthplace of Abraham Lincoln in Hodgensville, Kentucky. The Underwood and Underwood card depicts Paying the Death Penalty for Crime—Garroting a Criminal at Bilibid Prison, Manila, P.I. The Universal Photo Art Co. card shows No. 4261 The U.S. White House (front), Washington, D.C. The final card is a hand-tinted genre scene titled Tell Me Dat You Lub Me Darlin' Dina. Most cards by Keystone and Underwood feature detailed educational descriptions and geographic coordinates printed on the reverse. One card bears a handwritten inscription on the reverse: Heckmann Oct. 22 1903. Each card measures approximately 7 inches by 3.5 inches. Pickup is Wednesday, April 22 from 10 am to 3 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
