A Group of Japanese Porcelain Novelty Smoking Accessories - This group of ceramic smoking accessories is composed of glazed porcelain or fine earthenware, manufactured in Japan for the export market. The collection includes two matching large three-compartment holders, one medium three-compartment holder, and one small ash tray with a match holder back. The larger items feature stylized figures climbing on a clothesline with laundry hanging below, with compartments labeled ASHES, CIGARETTES, and MATCHES. The medium holder features a single figure beside laundry on a green textured base, with compartments labeled Ashes, Cigarettes, and Matches. The small ash tray features a figure peering over a fence with the hand-painted inscription WHO LEFT THIS BEHIND on the front. Decoration is executed in hand-painted overglaze colors including black, blue, orange, and green. The bases of the larger items are stamped in black ink with MADE IN JAPAN and feature an indistinct impressed circular mark. The medium item has incised characters for MADE IN JAPAN and an impressed circular mark with a stylized symbol. The small item is stamped MADE IN JAPAN on the underside. Large holders: 4.5 inches wide Medium holder: 2.5 inches wide Small holder: 2.5 inches wide. Pickup is Wednesday, April 22 from 10 am to 3 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
