A Trio of Stump Speaker and Dentist Reproduction Mechanical Banks - This lot features a trio of reproduction mechanical banks, including one Stump Speaker model and two Dentist models. The Stump Speaker is a 20th-century reproduction of the Shepard Hardware Company original design. It features a figure in a green coat, yellow vest, and white top hat standing behind a podium embossed with the words STUMP SPEAKER and BANK. The underside is marked TAIWAN with a circular stylized character. The mechanism is activated by a lever on the podium; when pressed, the figure's jaw moves and the hand drops a coin into the yellow bag. The two Dentist banks are part of the Book of Knowledge series, which are authorized reproductions of the J. and E. Stevens original design. These banks depict a dentist in a black suit extracting a tooth from a patient in a yellow shirt and grey trousers, mounted on a blue rectangular base with a green coin-receptacle bag. Markings on the underside of the Dentist banks read REPRODUCED FROM ORIGINAL IN COLLECTION OF THE BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE. The mechanism is lever-activated, causing the dentist to pull back and the patient to topple backward as the coin is deposited. All three banks are constructed of painted cast iron and utilize mechanical movements to deposit coins into internal receptacles. Stump Speaker: 10 inches height Dentist Banks: 9 inches length.
