John Harper and Co. Jolly Mechanical Bank - A John Harper and Co. Jolly mechanical bank. This lever-action item is constructed from painted cast iron in two primary halves joined by screws. The figure is depicted in a red jacket with a yellow bow tie and features a black face with red lips and white teeth. The mechanical action is triggered by a lever on the back of the right shoulder, which moves the right arm toward the mouth. The back of the torso contains the embossed text JOLLY N***** BANK in white-painted raised lettering. The underside of the base features a cast iron plate with the embossed mark John Harper & Co.
