A Collection of Assorted Metal, Glass, and Cameo Buttons, Featuring Classical and Historical Motifs, 19th-20th Century - This collection comprises group of assorted buttons, presented on a grid-lined display sheet. The buttons vary in size and shape, predominantly round or oval, with pair exhibiting an irregular leaf-shaped outline. Materials include various metals such as gold-toned, bronze, silver-toned, steel, and dark oxidized metal, alongside different types of glass in blue, purple, and black. Several buttons feature carved shell or bone cameos in white, black, and orange-brown. Stylistically, many pieces display classical or historical motifs, including profile busts of figures, often with helmets, crowns, or elaborate hairstyles, mythological creatures (e.g., a griffin), and foliate or abstract designs. Several buttons are executed in a cameo or intaglio carving style. Notable examples include a button clearly displaying ”GEORGIUS VI D G BRITT OMN REX F D” (George VI, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith) and another marked ”REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE” (French Republic). Handwritten annotations on the display sheet include ”Blue Glass,” ”Metal,” ”Paris,” ”Bacchus,” ”New Coat,” ”Steel Cups,” ”Rouge Haddon,” ”Old Bk Glass,” ”Paris A.P.Co.,” ”Glass in Metal,” and ”Helmet.” Button diameters range from approximately 1 cm to 3.5 cm.
