Civil War G.A.R. Ided Medal & Ribbon Group 1st NY Vet Cavalry & 1st NY Light Artillery - Rochester - GAR grouping identified to George S. Burke who served in Battery L, 1st New York Light Artillery and Co. C, 1st New York Veteran Volunteer Cavalry. Burke initially belonged to the New York G.A.R. Post No. 1 (O'Rorke Post) of Rochester, New York and was still listed as a member of that post in 1899. At some point he joined the Myron Adams Post No. 84 which was chartered in 1896.  The centerpieces of this group are two very early O'Rorke Post No. 1 ribbons with Burke's unit designations and his engraved G.A.R. Chief of Division Flower Committee for the Pinnacle & St. Boniface Cemetery in Rochester, New York. Also included in this group is his G.A.R. calling card for the G.A.R. Myron Adams Post No. 84 that lists the units he served in during the war,  three Myron Adams Post 84 ribbons including one for the 1911 National Encampment at Rochester, New York, a 1st N.Y. Veteran Vol. Cavalry - 27th New York Infantry reunion ribbon,1st Regiment New York Veteran Cavalry ribbons, a 1st N.Y. Vet. Cav - 33rd New York Infantry Ribbon, a 1st New York Light Artillery, Battery L ribbon, an Assistant Chief of Division Flower Committee Ribbon, 27th N.Y. Inf. ribbon, and a ”New York” ribbon. O'Rorke Post No.1 in Rochester was named after Patrick O'Rorke, Colonel of the 140th New York Volunteers. It was the first G.A.R. post established in the state of New York. Colonel O'Rorke, an Irish Immigrant, graduated 1st in his Class in June 1861 from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was killed on July 2, 1863 leading his regiment in a charge down the south slope of Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg. In-house shipping available.
