Civil War G.A.R. Gettysburg 1893 ”New York Day” Ribbon - - GAR Ribbon - badge given to New York Veterans who attended the  reunion at Gettysburg July 1 - 2- 3, 1893. The ribbon including the fringe measures 8” x 3”. The maker's paper tag ”C. G. Braxmar, Badges and Medals, 47 Cortlandt St., N.Y.” is still attached to the back of the ribbon. The ribbon is intact but there are two 1/2” splits where the ribbon attaches to the suspension bar.  This lot is part of the G.A.R. personal  effects of George S. Burke who served in Battery L, 1st New York Light Artillery and Co. C, 1st New York Veteran Volunteer Cavalry. Burke was a resident of Barnard - Rochester, New York. He initially belonged to the New York G.A.R. Post No. 1 (O'Rorke Post) of Rochester, New York and was still listed as a member of that post in 1899. At some point he joined the Myron Adams Post No. 84 which was chartered in 1896. Please see lot 2232 for Burke's engraved G.A.R.
