In 1919, he was the nation's prime minister and foreign minister during which he signed the Treaty of Versailles, which ended World War Paderewski interrupted his concert career in 1919 to serve as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and in 1940 to serve as President of the Polish Parliament in exile in Paris.
